Mattia Casalegno TWINS @ The Satellite, Miami Dec 1-6, 2015

We are cyborgs. We are impure hybrids. We strive for technological advancement as we long for human connection. Our communication is cardiovascular, made of repetitive impulses, and objects of engineering define our coexistence.

Machines and robots have become bone of our bones, and are becoming flesh of our flesh. The boundary between human beings and technology, as that between human beings and nature, has always been porous, but it has never been faint. We wish to be free of technology, but there is no going back to the Garden of Eden as there has never been such place.

TWINS by Mattia Casalegno is a site-specific, multimedia installation of flat screens displaying bondaged bodies, enslaved subjects, objects of both desire and cruelty. Suspended between the viewers, they intrigue and seduce, evoking mystery and inciting fear. They could fall suddenly as Eve’s apple from its tree, moving our existence into the oblivion. Or perhaps they might call forth in us hidden fantasies, freeing deeper emotions and sensorial experiences.

The project TWINS has been curated and produced by sarahcrown and Standard Practice on the occasion of The Satellite Project in Miami, December 1-6, 2015 and is the first public exposure of an ongoing research that will develop into a larger exhibition in NYC in 2016.
